This week saw five new Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) tenders/EOIs issued across India's central PSUs, state discoms, and green-energy arms — spanning re-tendering after a contractor default (NTPC), a large EPC package tied to NTPC Green Energy's Khavda solar park, a fresh standalone-BESS tender in Telangana, an energy-procurement tender from MSEDCL, and a battery-cell manufacturing EOI from Ayana Renewable Power. On the awards side, NLC India Renewables was confirmed as the winner of SJVN's 265 MW/530 MWh standalone BESS auction in Haryana.

New Tenders This Week

NTPC Re-Tenders 400 MWh BESS EPC Package at Mouda Power Station (Maharashtra)

NTPC Limited floated a fresh EPC tender for a 400 MWh battery energy storage system at its Mouda Super Thermal Power Station in Maharashtra, after terminating its ₹413.37-crore contract with G R Infraprojects Ltd (GRIL) — awarded in March 2026 — over contractor default. The new tender is structured as a re-award at GRIL's risk and cost, with bids due October 22, 2026. Mercom India | Saurenergy | SolarQuarter

NTPC Green Energy Floats 1,100 MW/3,300 MWh BESS EPC Tender at Khavda (Gujarat)

NTPC Green Energy Limited (NGEL) invited EPC bids for 1,100 MW/3,300 MWh of battery storage — split into three 300 MW/900 MWh blocks and one 200 MW/600 MWh block — to be built at NTPC Renewable Energy's Khavda solar park in Gujarat. The turnkey scope calls for a 25-year single-cycle battery life, minimum 80% round-trip efficiency, 98% annual availability, and 15 years of O&M; bids close October 27, 2026. Telangana (TGGENCO) Invites Bids for Standalone BESS at Maheswaram Substation

Telangana Power Generation Corporation (TGGENCO) floated a new tender for standalone, on-demand battery storage to be connected at TGTRANSCO's Maheswaram 400/220 kV substation, supported by Viability Gap Funding. This follows the state's earlier 375 MW/1,500 MWh BESS auction at the same site (won by Coal India and Sarus in April 2026); exact capacity for this new tranche was not disclosed in initial reporting. Bids are due October 23, 2026. Mercom India

MSEDCL Invites Bids for Battery Energy Storage System Procurement (Maharashtra)

Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) opened a new tender to procure energy/services from battery energy storage systems — distinct from its earlier 2,000 MW/4,000 MWh BOO capacity tender (awarded to Oriana Power and GK Energy last week). The advisory flags lithium-ion and alternative battery-chemistry developers to assess supply-chain readiness; bids close October 6, 2026. Capacity figures were not disclosed in public reporting. Ayana Renewable Power Seeks JV Partner for 2–2.5 GWh/Year Battery Cell Manufacturing (EOI)

Not a deployment tender, but directly relevant to BESS assembly players: Ayana Renewable Power issued an Expression of Interest to select a joint-venture partner to set up an advanced chemistry cell (ACC) manufacturing facility with an initial annual capacity of 2–2.5 GWh. Submissions are due October 1, 2026. Mercom India

Tender Winners

NLC India Renewables Wins SJVN's 265 MW/530 MWh Standalone BESS Tender (Haryana)

NLC India Renewables was declared the winner of SJVN's standalone BESS tender (floated under VGF in July 2026) for a 265 MW/530 MWh project in Haryana, at a discovered tariff of ₹2.35 lakh/MW/month. Saurenergy | Mercom India | MVApulse

(Note: MSEDCL's 2,000 MW/4,000 MWh BOO auction winners — Oriana Power and GK Energy — were reported again this week by several outlets, but that award was already covered in last week's brief and is excluded here to avoid duplication.)
